Layla is not too into sitting down and reading which is understandable as her attention span is not fully developed. Rather she does a lot of age appropriate reading- books in mouth, turns the pages, and walks around with books in her hands. Here are some of her favorite sit-in-mom's-lap books.
She is all about the interactive books like the Spot and Baby Loves lift-the-flap series, and a current favorite Bizzy Bear Pirate Adventure which allows her to manipulate scenes on the page. These books are great for letting little ones work the muscles in their hands to improve dexterity.

Almost one year
We are 10 days away from hitting the one year marker and oh what a year it has been. While the year has zoomed by, in retrospect so much has happened. We have traveled a lot visiting home in California and Minnesota twice, attended a wedding in Seattle, camped with some great friends, hosted our families and friends, relaxed on a beach in North Carolina, made new friends right on our street and experienced a lot of firsts with Layla.
As we close in on one year Layla is now walking full-fledged, waves bye, claps her hands, says dad, dada, a hard-to-understand thank you, and this morning while reading a book she went for quack. No mom yet, nope.
And the look that melts my heart and makes me fall in love with her 10x more. Here she is with puppy her favorite Christmas gift by Uncle Mark.

Enjoying the woodchips at the park. Not sure why she is sticking her tongue out? Balance, perhaps.
